- If you are searching for a job seriously try to connect with the HR/Team Leads of the particular company in your field.
- Try to connect with people having the
title HR Executive, HR Manager, HR Specialist, Talent Acquisition
Specialist, Talent Acquisition Manager related to your field.
- Try to avoid consultancies or agents because mostly they ask you to pay money, some may be genuine but be careful.
- Try to follow the professors, trainers,
or enthusiasts in your field. They will share knowledgeable information.
- Try to follow groups or community that
are related to your field.
- While sending a private message to a recruiter or a connection don't send just "Hi" message because many will ignore you. If you are looking for a job in their company just write a brief passage about why you want to communicate with them.
- Never ask for mobile numbers. You can alternatively ask for email ids.
- Always keep your profile information updated.
- If you are seeing a post please read it fully or read it twice to reply to that post. This is the frequent mistake done by most of the linkies, so you can avoid several facepalm moments.
- Please maintain professionalism while you are communicating with a stranger in LinkedIn as it is a professional network.
- Don't share posts, videos, images that are not related to job search it can make job searchers irksome.
- Do like, share, comment, and relevant posts to increase your profile visibility. This will help you get more visibility and value.
- Create or Share contents which are valuable to your career or your connection, which will improve your visibility.
- Don't use the LinkedIn platform to directly or indirectly target your previous employer or your current employer.
It gives the bad signal to your current employer or future employer.
- If you are a newbie to LinkedIn just absorb your connections and visit profiles which are professional to get some basic knowledge about LinkedIn.
- Update the information about the experience and skill set regularly.
- Don't give money of any kind to get a job.
It is completely fraud.
- Respect everyone in your connection. If
someone is posting too many posts or not relevant to your job just
unfollow them.
- Please avoid posts which say to comment as
"Yes", "I am interested". Most probably they are consultancies.
- Use Glassdoor or other famous review websites to read the reviews about your current employer or future employer. If your employer is bad or very good you can inform this in review websites. This will make them to correct their mistakes or it will make them do better.
- Try to connect with as many people as you can,
related to your field.
- Try to connect with at least 5 resume writers. They definitely post about information related to what you should not do in your resume.
- Try to connect with at least 5 soft skill trainers. They definitely post about tips to improve your communication.
- Try to connect with trainers from online institutes like Udemy, Coursera, Upgrad and Edureka.
- If a person posts a job-related post just like, share, or comment so that someone in your connection may help him find his or her dream job.
- Don't copy someone's post to gain popularity. People know immediately that you copied from some other post, so never do that.
- LinkedIn is not a social media site so don't use this platform to make girlfriends.
- Don't post, like, share contents which are related to politics, religion, and hatred. You might lose a good connection or people may think you are not worth following.
- Don't like and share every post to impress the person or company. It will not do any good.
- You can pitch sales in LinkedIn but it should not feel like a sales pitch.
- You can do marketing about your company, product, services or your profile but it should not feel like marketing.
- Don't expect that you will get a reply from a
popular person as your comment gets lost in 1000s of comments.
- Add certifications which you have done. Please make sure to update once your certificate got expired.
- At least like, share, or comment a single post related to your field weekly, which keeps your profile visible for a better opportunity.
- In LinkedIn out of 100 at least 10 will try to help you because most of them crossed the same situation as you.
